‘THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS DOCUMENTARY’: AN INTERVIEW
WITH TRINH T. MINH-HA”
(2018)

In this interview with Erika Balsom, Vietnamese filmmaker Trinh T. Minh-ha discusses the overlap between “fiction” and “documentary” and describes how she deconstructs concepts such as “authenticity” in documentaries (particularly ethnographies).

Minh-ha notes how those who create the “story” in a documentary, as well as the intended audience, actually shape the concept of authenticity in the context of the film, not the individual subjects themselves.
